As filming was well underway for Rona’s new song video lost in tears, Nightshades looked like production studio wires everywhere. The place was packed to the brim with the cameras, film crew, lighting crew, and sound crew. You name it, it was there.
Nick and the guys were in the restaurant most of the day. Nick spent much time with Deb, repeatedly asking her to be in the video.
However, Simon was not impressed with how much time Nick spent with his wife.
“Why did you pick this restaurant?”
“It’s the perfect place to shoot the video; why?”
“Are you sure it’s not because my wife owns it?”
“What?”
“Come on, Nick”
“Come on, what?”
“I know what you’re doing.”
“No, Si, what is it I’m doing?”
Simon walked away, shaking his head, and Nick looked confused. He didn’t know what Simon was getting at. It all became clear when Danny appeared one day, and Simon stormed out of Nightshades like a bat out of hell.
“Dan “
“Yeah”
“Have you got a minute?”
“Sure”
Nick wasn’t sure whether to ask Danny, as he looked stressed. Whatever Deb said to him in the kitchen had not appeared to have gone well.
“Well, do you know what Si’s problem is?”
“What do you mean?”
“He’s told me he knows what I’m doing.”
“Ah, yes, it might be my fault. I could have made Si paranoid.”
“About me.”
“Yep”
“While he’s focusing on me, he can’t see you steal Deb from under his nose, right.”
“I can’t steal what’s already mine.”
Nick asks Danny again if everything is all right; his eyes tell a different story; they shine with sadness, jealousy, and rage simultaneously; he knows how much he loves Deb after all he’d felt when he first met Deb himself. He still didn’t like the fact that Danny had used him to cover what he was doing.
The following day, Simon had gone to nightshades; his paranoia was working overtime; he told Deb he didn’t want Roma shooting the video at the restaurant. Deb told him it was too late; the footage was well underway. Simon didn’t like the fact Deb had told him no and argued with her as he moodily walked out. He looks at Nick, indicating with his finger that he was watching him; Nick laughs with amusement was getting a touch pissed off with Simon.
Later that evening, Nick was about to leave when Deb strolled back in. “Hi, Nick.”
“Well, Hi, my sexy lady.
“Are you going to give me a sneaky listen to Lost in Tears?”
“If you want me to.”
“I do “
Nick picks up his guitar and begins to strum and sing.
You let me go. “I love you so, and now I’m in tears; come back to me. I need you, so don’t leave me lost in my tears. Ohhhh yeah, yeah, yeah, lost in tears.”
Deb begins to sway, then twirls around, laughing and teasing Nick. He puts the guitar down, picks up the video camera, and begins to record her. She looks happy; he knows she isn’t Danny pulling her one way and Simon pulling her the other. Deb starts to dance closer to the camera, blowing kisses and laughing. Nick records it all. She looks so beautiful that he turns the video off and puts it to the side.
He moved closer to her, begging her to be the girl in his video; she blushed and shook her head. Taking hold of her, he kissed her; she responded to him. His nerves had gotten the better of him the last time. He’d run away when they had gotten so close the first time, not this time.
Her kisses were warm and gentle. Moving her back onto the large speaker behind them. he laid her down; his finger ran up her spine, exploring her body; he wanted her so intensely that he began to make love to her gently, whispering I love you.”
As they got dressed, they were grinning at each other knowingly. Nick begged her to be with him.
“I can’t.”
“This is not how it’s supposed to end.”
“How is it supposed to end?”
“You’re supposed to ride off into the sunset with me,” he laughs.
“Oh, Nick, if only we were in another time and place, we had a stolen moment.”
“I know. It’s sad because I know this will never happen again, and no one will ever know about this. It’s our stolen moment; I do love you.”
She gently touches his cheek and kisses him tenderly, “Only if we had met first.”
