Chapter 4
2011
Sydnie had been seeing Elliot for a year. She was still managing to keep him at arm’s length, which was increasingly more difficult. Because she sometimes found it hard to resist, his kisses were like silk on her lips. And his touch sent shivers up her spine. But she did have to keep him at a distance. He was so charming—a side Sydnie never realised he had. Still, she had to be strong. She wanted to teach him a lesson he would never forget.
She wanted to keep her secret as long as possible.
However, she didn’t expect him to fall in love with her or propose. She beguiled him.
This was turning out to be even better than she had planned. Elliot planned a romantic meal, champagne, and the whole works. He got down on one knee and popped the question with a ring and flowers—he even got some to serenade her. She almost felt sorry for him, but she didn’t.
Elliot didn’t want a long engagement. He wanted to get married immediately. Over dinner one evening, he told Sydnie he had booked their honeymoon.
“You have booked our honeymoon.”
“Yes, do you want to know where?”
“Yeah”
“Thailand”
“That’s my dream honeymoon.”
“I know; I think I deserve a kiss, don’t you.”
Sydney leaned in to kiss him. It became intense as he explored her mouth with his tongue. She forgot herself for a moment; his hands had created a sizzling volcano in the pit of her stomach. Sydnie had to stop herself before she got too carried away; she could only imagine the pleasure she would get if he made love to her. It must have crossed his mind why she stopped him from making love.
Sydney couldn’t believe that Elliot and Wade still hadn’t worked out who she was, but she was happy to keep it that way, for the time being anyway. All would be revealed soon enough.
It was just weeks before the wedding. And all the preparations were coming along nicely. The church and venue for the reception had been booked. She had left Elliot with that job; her job was her dress and flowers.
Sydnie was at home waiting for her friend Claire to come round; she had come over from Wales, especially to see Sydnie. When the doorbell rang, that’s who she thought it was
“Delivery…? For Miss Perez”
“Yes, that’s me.”
He handed her a small package and asked her to sign for it. As she did, Claire appeared and shouted, “Syd.”
“OMG, who’s it from Syd?” Claire said positively, giddy
“I don’t know.”
“Open it then.”
Sydnie opens the box to find another box. Intrigued, she quickly opens the second box to find a stunning bracelet.
“What’s in the box?”
“Yes, intriguing somewhat”, Sydnie giggles
“How romantic, there’s no name”, Claire gushed.
“There must be a note.
“I don’t know
Anxiously looking for a card in the boxes, Claire found it in the first box it read.
Especially for you, you are my queen and should be showered with gifts; I love you; I always have; your Mr right xxx.
When she thanked Elliot for the bracelet, he didn’t know what she was talking about. He became very jealous and demanded to know who had sent it. Sydnie told him she had no idea.
“You’re not keeping that.”
“I’ll return it once I know who to send it to.”
