The Next Generation
A spin-off from my book series Love Lust and Lies
2020 The internet buzzed, a familiar hum of anticipation rippling through the dedicated forum. “Love, Lust, and Lies: The Next Generation – ten Years Later” the thread screamed. ten years. It felt like just yesterday the original book series had been realised, a scandalous whirlpool of affairs, betrayals, and enough cliffhangers to make your head spin. Now, their offspring were taking centre stage.
The original fans, now navigating their own messy lives, were eager for updates. Where were they now, the kids who’d grown up in the shadow of their parents’ sins and successes?
Derri, the product of one of the series’ , was to become a famous photographer his own right. Camitta, Derri’s twin sister had taken her dads path. Entering the glitz of Beverly Hills, she was now a well-known recording artis .
Daniel and Debra Tony and Sue’s children had taken their chosen paths Debra now co owned Nightshades with her mother and Simon Richards whilst Daniel had become a professor in forensic science
Amy Miller, Lori’s daughter, had become a night club manager with her mother friend Zeborah Lambert at her mother and aunt Desiree’s club
The whispers about Shelby Amber and Hunter, Simon and Chrissie’s children. Shelby was a well-known sculptor Amber had become cosmetic surgeon and Hunter liked to just travel the world busking
And then there was Dempsey Coleman, Jazz Coleman’s estranged daughter. Her life had been shrouded in secrecy, a carefully guarded mystery. Was now a singing sensation and married to Derri Templeton
Denver, Jonny Barrens son , a DJ named Den V spun tracks in underground clubs, his music pulsing with the raw energy of his father’s rebellious spirit.
Tanner and Sydney, Jon and Katrina’s children, Sydney had opened a successful vineyard in a Italian Valley, a symbol of renewal and growth, and Brandon had
become a documentary filmmaker, a storyteller capturing the raw edges of human experience.
Nick and Lola’s sons, Branden and Rubin, had both followed their mother and father’s footsteps in the music business, Brandon a manager and Rubin a music tech whizz .
The forum buzzed with theories, speculations, and, above all, a shared sense of connection. These weren’t just characters in a book ; they were reflections of our own lives, our own struggles with family, love, and legacy.
A week later, an anonymous video surfaced online. It showed Dempsey Coleman, standing in front of the iconic mansion that had served as the backdrop for so much of the original series’ drama. Her eyes, dark and knowing, stared directly into the camera.
“The truth,” she said, her voice calm and measured, “is always more complicated than the story you’ve been told.”
With that, the screen went black. The next generation of “Love, Lust, and Lies series ” had truly begun. And this time, it promised to be even more explosive than the last. The original after all, had grown up. They understood the nuances of life, the shades of Gray that existed between love and hate, truth and lies. And they were ready for the new book. They were ready for the real story. The next chapter, it seemed, would be written in blood, tears, and secrets that had been buried for far too long.
The old beach house stood sentinel against the relentless crashing of the waves, a faded monument to summers filled with sun-soaked laughter and teenage dramas. Ten years had passed since the infamous “Love, Lust, and Lies” crew – their parents – had carved their chaotic, intertwined lives into the very grain of this house. Now, their children, scattered across the globe but drawn back by an unspoken pull, were gathering.
Derri and Camitta with Dempsey and Denver all grown up with a lawyer’s sharp wit and a surprisingly soft heart, was the first to arrive. All already on the porch, nursing a glass of wine. “Derri” Camitta ,” breathed, a warmth blooming in her eyes. “Just like the old days, only… older.”
Soon, the others trickled in. Amy Miller, the spitting image of her mother, her energy infectious as ever, bounded up the steps, the assistant manager of her mother nightclub . a matched set of mischievous grins and shared secrets, zipped up in a beat-up jeep. Danny, a charismatic professor who could charm the birds from the trees, and Debra who looked remarkably like Deborah Carnell, followed behind. It wasn’t long before Shelby Hunter and Amber arrived and close behind was Tanner, Sydney, Rubin and Brandon.
As the sun began to dip below the horizon, painting the sky in hues of orange and purple, they gathered in the living room, the very same room where the original Love lust and lies series cast had navigated their messy love lives. The air hummed with a mixture of nostalgia, awkwardness, and the undeniable weight of shared history.
“So,” Derri and began, breaking the silence, “why are we all here? Besides the obvious nostalgia trip?”
Camitta strummed a chord on her guitar. “I don’t know about you guys, but I felt… compelled. Like something was unfinished.”
Brandon, ever the observer, “Genetics. We’re all carrying the baggage of their choices. It’s bound to resurface eventually.”
Denver, ever the pragmatist, adjusted his glasses. “Statistically speaking, unresolved family dynamics have a way of manifesting. This place… it’s a pressure cooker.”
As the night wore on, fuelled by copious amounts of wine and shared memories, the pressure cooker started to simmer. Stories spilled out, tales of triumphs and failures, of heartbreaks and quiet victories. They spoke of their parents, their legacies, their mistakes. The echoes of the “Love, Lust, and Lies” drama were everywhere, shaping their own lives in ways they were only beginning to understand.
Camitta confessed to struggling with the fear of repeating her mother’s impulsive decisions. Denver admitted to the constant pressure of living up to his father’s larger-than-life persona. Amy revealed her fear of commitment, terrified of the messy entanglements of her mother’s past. Tanner silent for most of the evening, finally spoke, his voice rough with emotion. “I just… I wanted to know if it was possible to escape it all. To be something other than a footnote in their story.”
The next morning, as the sun rose, casting a golden glow on the beach, they found Danny and Debra building a bonfire, the scent of woodsmoke mingling with the salty air. They joined them, dragging driftwood and old memories to fuel the flames.
As the fire crackled, They realized that they were not defined by their parents’ choices, but by their own. They were not doomed to repeat history but empowered to create their own destinies.
As the week drew to a close, they knew that they couldn’t erase the past, but they could learn from it. They carried the weight of their parents’ history, but they also carried the strength of their own resilience. They were the next generation, forged in the fires of love, lust, and lies series , but determined to write their own stories.
The beach house, once a symbol of entanglement and chaos, now stood for something else: a place of healing, connection, and the promise of a future unburdened by the past. As they packed their bags and prepared to return to their
lives, they knew that they would carry a piece of this summer with them, a reminder that even from the most tangled roots, something beautiful could bloom. The legacy of “Love, Lust, and Lies series” lived on, not as a curse, but as a testament to the enduring power of family.
The End
