Chapter 4

Vincent’s Retirement
Oliver and Holly set off to Leeds for Vincent’s retirement party, they
checked in to their room, and Oliver went down to meet some of the
lads for a drink while Holly got ready, she looked stunning in her black
cat suit draped at the back, When Oliver went back to the room; Holly
was just putting the last touches to her makeup, he stopped and looked
at her
“You look nice.”
“Thank you.”
“I better get dressed hadn’t I?” and he smiled at her
They headed down to the party once Oliver was ready; Oliver got a
hold of her hand before they went into the party
“It looks better.”
“Oh of course,” she said sarcastically
Oliver got talking to his colleagues and forgot about Holly. She was
talking to one the other wives at the party when Martin comes over and
introduced himself
“Hi; I’m Martin”
“Holly”
“Your Oliver’s wife, aren’t you?”
“Yes, that’s right.”
“Would you like to dance?”
“Why not, I’d love to.”
They headed over to the dance floor they were on there for a while
Martin was lovely, he paid attention to her, he listened to what she had
to say.
“Did I tell you how lovely you look?
“Thank you.”
“Oliver is a fortunate man.”
“Thank you again.”
Oliver was talking to Vince; Vince mentioned that Martin had been
dancing with Holly for quite some time
“Yeah, it’s fine.”
“She a beautiful lady; doesn’t it bother you.”
“No…. she’s happily married” and laughed
Oliver looked over and watched for a while Vince was right; Martin was
giving Holly a lot of attention and Holly seem to be enjoying it. Oliver
suddenly got a wave of jealousy over him.
As Oliver watched Holly and Martin head back over to the bar for a
well-needed drink, Oliver made his way to the bar and placed his hands
on Holly’s hips
“Hey, having fun” and kissed her cheek
“Yeah I’m having a great time thanks to Martin.”
He turned to Martin and said, “You’ve met my wife, then?”
“Yeah, you’ve got a beautiful wife.”
“Yeah… I know”
Martin turned to Holly and kissed her hand; winked at her and told
her he would see her later; Holly nodded and smiled
Oliver took her hand and led her to the dance floor; Holly was a little
shocked, he only did anything when it was necessary
It was three o’clock when they got back to their room Oliver stared at
her and said
“You know that isn’t happening right.”
Holly looked puzzled and asked him what he was referring to
“Martin”
“What are you talking about?”
“You and Martin”
“Don’t worry Oliver; your career is safe.”
“Holly….”
She stormed into the bathroom slammed the door behind her, Oliver
sat on the bed and sighed a heavy sigh
She came out of the bathroom and got into bed and pulled the cover
over her. Oliver turned to her and put his hand on her shoulder
“Holly.”
“What?” She sounded angry
“Nothing… it doesn’t matter.”
Oliver got out bed and went into the bathroom placing his head on the
door; Holly’s dress was hanging on the hook he sank his head into her
dress inhaled deeply. He could still smell her perfume, light and
feminine aroma she had been wearing that evening, as he ran his hands
over it. He imagined her in it.
By the time he came out of the bedroom, Holly was fast asleep he got
into bed and laid looking into the dark; he turned over and whispered
“Holly.”
No, she was in a deep sleep and didn’t move, he moved closer to her
and put his fingers through her hair; it was silky soft, and she smelt so
good. He turned back and sighed heavily; it took him a while to drop
off to sleep. The next morning Holly was still angry with Oliver, she got
dressed and went down to breakfast on her own. She had left Oliver
was getting dressed
Martin shouted, “Good morning.”
“Good morning Martin.”
“Where’s Oliver still hungover?”
“No, he’s getting dressed.”
Oliver appeared just as Martin and Holly shared a joke and Oliver got
the wrong impression.
“Good morning darling” and kissed her
Holly pulled away and went over to the table, Martin looked at Oliver
and asked him if he was in the bad books
“Looks like it, doesn’t it.”
He went to sit down, looked at Holly “Are you angry with me?”
Holly gave him a look that sent chills down his spine; she didn’t even
talk to him all the way home. She had enough she wanted a proper
relationship with romance, love and sex, not an agreement.
The weeks seemed to roll by fast,
Holly was getting fed up with her situation and asked Rita to go out
more. They met two young men whom they started talking to; Holly
couldn’t explain her position; it sounded too bizarre even to her.
He liked her and wanted to see her, take her out on a date. Holly
wasn’t sure maybe she should tell Oliver she wanted out of their
agreement and finally get on with her life.
Meanwhile Oliver’s mate: Toby had arranged a blind date for Oliver
with a pretty blonde, she was stunning. They’d been for a meal then
they headed for the night club they’d had a great night Oliver and Zoë
were getting on well.
Up until Toby spotted Holly; his mistake was pointing her out; Oliver
looked over and saw her, he told Toby he was going over to say hello;
then noticed Craig take hold of her hand. It seemed very cosy; he got
very jealous very quickly.
Zoë and her friend told the boys they were off to the powder room,
and Oliver abruptly said: “And you want me to hold your hand?”
Zoe looked at him and said “no.”
“Well, what are you telling me for?”
“I was just saying” and walked off somewhat miffed
Toby was flabbergasted and asked what he was playing at?
“She’s getting on my nerves now.”
“You were fine until you saw Holly with that fella; your jealous aren’t
you.”
Oliver shrugged his shoulders “No.”
“You’re falling for her”
“No!” he snapped
Zoe and her friend Eve came back, and Oliver told her that he was
going home, she wanted to know why, and he said to her that he’d just
seen his wife; she looked at him and slapped his face her friend looked
at Toby.
Toby told Eve he wasn’t married; she didn’t believe him and followed
Zoe
“Thank you very much, Oliver.”
“You’ll get over it mate.”
“I was on a promise there.”
“Well, you’re not now.”
“Yeah like I said thanks a bleeding bunch. You would have got a bit
too; Zoe was up for it.”
“Come on, let’s go; I fancy a kebab.”
Oliver looked over at Holly; she was laughing; she looked so happy he
hated the fact this guy made her feel that way, He didn’t like it.
He was so jealous, but he was not about to admit it. He didn’t like
seeing his wife with that man. When she arrived home, Oliver was still
awake; he laid in the dark thinking about her.
